Rose Marie (Miller) Scrizzi, 88, of Allentown, passed away peacefully August 11, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late John C. Scrizzi who she celebrated 57 years of marriage together prior to his passing in 2020. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Kehs) Miller.
She graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1953 and began working for Provident Mutual Insurance Company. After the birth of her first child, Rose stayed home to be a full-time mother until her sons entered their teen years. At that time, Rose went back to school and embarked on a new career with H&R Block as a Tax Preparer. After 25 years with H& R Block, she retired and spent another 20+ years volunteering with AARP preparing taxes for seniors.
Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling and playing pinochle with her family and friends. She enjoyed countless family gatherings at her parents’ cottage as well as her cabin at Lake Wallenpaupack. She also enjoyed downhill skiing, cross country skiing, water skiing, ice skating, fishing and hiking with her family.
Rose enjoyed cheering on her favorite sports teams: Penn State, Phillies, Eagles, IronPigs and Phantoms. She attended numerous IronPigs and Phantoms games with her family’s season tickets and always made a point to walk around the stadium/arena to talk with friends and her favorite ushers!
In Rose’s final years, her greatest joy came from spending time with her granddaughter and newest best friend, Sophia! Upon Sophia’s birth, Rose moved into her new home, 3 doors away and became an amazing grandmother. From changing diapers to practicing ABC’s, counting, potty training and reading, she jumped at any chance to spend time with Sophia. From Sophia’s 1st day of kindergarten and on, Rose was at her front door every morning to wave and wish Sophia a good day at school. She attended countless dance recitals, basketball and volleyball games, school plays and most recently the Sunday church breakfasts where Sophia would always sit next to her grandmother at mass and volunteer to get her fruit after she finished her eggs and French toast.
She will be deeply missed.
